What th' heck is this thing anyways?

The BlogDabbit LJ Mememaker lets you make an LJ meme that grabs usernames off of people's friends list and inserts them into clever and funny sentences that you've written!

You can write up to 35 sentences and put LJ username placeholders in them via the LJ Friends Meme text editor. The sentences you write will look something like this:

<<--1-->> gave it to <<--2--->> who gave it to <<--3-->>!

Those cryptic looking <<--1-->> markers will be replaced by usernames from a LJ users friends list when Livejournal users run your meme.

 How do I start off?

The first thing, of course, is to come up with a title and a description for your meme. Think of a theme such as "What kind of superpowers do your friends have?" or "What kind of cats are your friends?" You are also asked if you want it to be a static meme or a random meme. That means, do you want the same lines to show up in order, (static meme,) or do you want the lines to come up randomly? You are also asked if usernames can repeat. That is, if an LJ username is used in the first line, can it show up in any of the proceeding lines? After you input that stuff, you are taken to the LJ Friends text editor.

Use this text editor in order to write out lines for your LJ friends meme. The LJer buttons below the editor's text area let you insert markers where LJ usernames will be inserted by the mighty LJ Friend Meme program.

<<-1->>

That is a placeholder for the 1st LJer in the sentence. You can hand code the placeholders if you want, but the buttons are more convenient. Once you have written a line, hit the "Create New Line" button. When you are done writing out your lines hit "Finished! Make my meme!"

Important: The <<--1-->> placeholder means the first LJ username in your sentence, not the first LJ username in the entire meme!

When the program displays your meme, the placeholder will be replaced by an LJ username from the user's friendslist.

Here is an example:

A sample line for a meme:

<<--1-->> told <<--2-->> all about it, though <<--1-->> didn't know that <<--2-->> already knew everything.

When it goes through the meme process, it will receive random LJ usernames like so:

jvmatucha told superigel all about it, though jvmatucha didn't know that superigel already knew everything.

 Placeholder details

You must use the placeholders in order in a single sentence. That is, if you want to LJ names in your meme sentence, then you must use the <<-1->> placeholder and then the <<-2->> placeholder. If you use the <<--1-->> and the <<--3-->> placeholder without including a <<--2-->> placeholder, your meme sentence will not be recorded. You can only place up to 4 LJ usernames in one sentence.

You can use a placeholder more than once. For instance, if you use the marker <<-1->> several times in one line, it will be replaced with the same LJ username.

 Here are a few tips:

  • Write out a your meme before starting up the application.
  • Keep in mind that the meme can't detect gender, so try to keep your lines gender neutral.
  • There is a 35 line limit. This may be expanded in the future, but for the time being, it is 35 lines.
  • Also keep in mind BlogDabbits terms of service. One thing to keep in mind is that you, yes YOU are totally responsible for the content you publish on this site. That includes having to deal with things like lawsuits, media controversy, personal vendettas resulting from etc, etc... If you still have any questions about that, read up on the TOS!
  • If you are having trouble using the LJ meme editor because it does not appear to be working properly, try using the editor in a different browser. Occasionally browsers such as Mozilla or older version of IE give the editor headaches. If you're using an older version of a browser, try updating it.
